I'm in Seoul, South Korea for a month working on projects for an exhibition we will have at the end of July. After a lot of getting used to Seoul and understanding the surroundings, we went to Daegu university for a few days to work with the students there. The first day we had a lesson in Sumi Ink painting, and practiced the linework of brushstrokes, amount of water applied to the ink, and creating classic sumi ink imagery.
The next day we did sculpture projects with the Daegu students that had to be site-specific and created in a short amount of time. Our group focused around our friend Minah's route from school to her home every night, and how she was afraid of criminals in the streets. We created a shrine-like monster shield to protect her, equipped with a sharp wooden plank for a knife and a lightbulb to light the way home.
On the side of the road we found a Styrofoam box filled with raw meat in plastic bags. Minah placed the bags alongside our shield, and claimed them as a warning to anyone who would try to harm her.
Daegu was surprisingly a very successful trip, and the first week was a great introduction to life in South Korea!

Intern at Frederator, pt. 1
I have been interning at Frederator Studios which is a real joy! I finished a promo animation I made for the up-and-coming Youtube Channel Cartoon Hangover, which will feature the new Pen Ward (creator of Adventure Time) show Bravest Warriors, and James Kochalka's Super Fuckers. Here is the animation, but the sound and promotional info will be added on Youtube soon:
Also, I made a little Frederator head cartoon for the opening and ending of cartoons featured on their Youtube channels. Here is it in gif form:

Sounds
Last night I had my first live set at the Vigil, MICA's annual all-night music festival. I wanted my set to create atmospheric music. My theme is a wide open environment and to give the impression of an imaginary place within space or the ocean. I used Ableton to play record synth clips. I incorporated my samples from various sources, from 50s to Super Mario games. I made everything have a very mellow tone, and it is supposed to give a relaxing yet attentive impression.
The set was improvised and I recorded a similar one right after to put online. Here it is:

Places With You
I completed one of my hypertext memoir projects this week. Places With You is a surveillance project which focuses on friends and acquaintances by finding places we have both been to. Using Facebook, I randomly went through my 'events' page online and wrote about one of my Facebook friends attending. I recreated an imaginary scene using true stories from random memories I have of the person. Click the image to check it out:
Skeleton Key
Today my roommate was shoveling dirt in the backyard for a project and I found this strange rusted object. I decided to make make own mini-sculpture and put it in a wooden case with plastic ants dancing on the glass window. Just for fun!

Probably going to work on this a little more later but it's basically done.
It comes up so tiny on here, the original drawing is 12x12 inches.
